Current MRTA Initiatives
• Recently introduced a
tourism levy through hotels in the city of Miramichi, with funds being used to hire an executive director to implement a marketing
plan to promote the region.
• Currently offering the SuperHost program, a customer service training program
for frontline staff, at an extremely reduced rate to members (only $15/person).
• To keep the VIC on Route 11,
which is managed by MRTA, open earlier and later in the season, and also plan to have a coordinator travel throughout the
region to assist all VIC locations with training, literature, displays, etc.
• Joining with other groups to
lobby for improved signage both internally and externally, most recently for the Priceville/McNamee footbridge.
• Working
with funding partners to determine the feasibility and interest from businesses in bringing domestic charter flights into
the Miramichi Airport which would allow greater convenience and increased opportunities for packaging, to our tourism operators.
• The first annual Miramichi River Tourism Expo “You Don’t Have to Go Away, to Get Away”
will be held on May 2 & 3 to show people across the region what is available in their own backyard. Special reduced rates
and work shopping session for members.
• Developing a promotional brochure focused on the many festivals and
musical entertainment available throughout the region, in the musical, mystical, Miramichi.
